The Audrey Hepburn tag is seriously the most frustrating thing ever. There are some quality stills and pictures of her when she’s younger and older with UNICEF. And it got me thinking, that no matter how much I love Audrey and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (sue me, it was the movie that started it all), I hate how she is associated with ‘elegance’ and ‘classiness’. There is no doubt in my mind that Audrey is elegant and classy but there’s more to her than that. She is not just a pretty little face who is dainty and ‘believes in manicures and overdressing” (seriously, what does that even mean?). Audrey suffered a lot through life; multiple miscarriages, first husband was controlling, second husband’s infidelity, insecurity, her father’s abandonment , depression, health problems, living in Nazi occupied Holland, losing her step-brother and Uncle due to the latter. But despite all these hardships, she still found time to dedicate herself to the wellness of others. Using her fame for good, bringing attention to the plight of children and mothers of countries that some people have never heard of. And all she is remembered for is for a fake, vapid quote and wearing nice clothes? Fuck that.
